What is FMAH?

Family Medicine Association of Hamilton (FMAH) is an organization representing all of Hamilton’s Family Physicians.  Our mandate is to improve the health of our community through activities guided by our unified voice of Family Medicine in Hamilton.  We are recognized as experts and leaders in primary care in Hamilton.  Our Board of Directors includes representatives from Family Medicine sections of the Hamilton Academy of Medicine, McMaster University, Hamilton Health Sciences, St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Family Health Teams, and community physicians.

HISTORY OF FMAH

FMAH is a not for profit organization representing the diversity of Family Medicine in Hamilton.  FMAH was initially created to implement Primary Care Networks in Hamilton.  After funding ceased in 2002, FMAH continued its work thanks to in-kind support from the existing organizations of Family Medicine.

From December 2004 to April 2006, in collaboration with Hamilton Academy of Medicine, FMAH undertook a project to recommend a strategy that would represent the central and legitimate "voice" (single point of contact) for Family Medicine in the city.  The strategy would incorporate and build on the present Family Medicine organizations and strengthen links to primary care disciplines, community agencies and institutions.
