Dr. David Price
Dr. David Price is Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University, has been an associate professor since 2005, and was appointed Chief of Family Medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences in February 2004. Dr. Price moved to McMaster University in August 2000 from Vancouver, British Columbia where he was in a community practice with a broad spectrum of care including obstetrics, pediatrics, extended care coverage, palliative care, etc. Prior to working in Vancouver, he spent 18 months working in rural New Brunswick and Quebec as well as a brief stint in Canada’s Arctic.
Dr. Price is the founding director of the Maternity Centre of Hamilton, a multidisciplinary centre caring for prenatal and intrapartum patients. Since 2003, Dr. Price has been the Medical Director for the Quality in Family Practice Project. Dr. Price has also been instrumental in helping to create the academic Family Health Team at McMaster University, an interprofessional team consisting of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, dieticians, pharmacists, etc. As Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, he has overseen the expansion of the residency program from 30 first-year residents to a current class size of 70. This expansion has been accomplished, in large part, by expanding the training sites to include partnering communities distant from the Hamilton home base.
